Prototyp is a contemporary digital art festival that brings together art, science and technology. Each year, the selection of works reflects current social issues. For the first time this year, it is moving out onto the streets of Brno.

WHEN DOES THE FESTIVAL TAKE PLACE?

The festival takes place from 1 to 3 October 2026. The programme runs from 7.00 pm to midnight each evening. Some performances may start at different times; these will be specified for each event. The same applies to the supporting programme.

WHERE IS THE FESTIVAL HELD?

The festival takes place at several venues in the heart of Brno. All of the installations are within walking distance of each other. Some of the programme takes place in public spaces, while others are located indoors. A detailed list of venues is available on the festival map.

In total, there are 20 installations, 13 of which are open to the public free of charge and 7 of which require an admission fee.

WHERE CAN I FIND A MAP AND THE PROGRAMME?

You can find the map here. It will be available on the festival website, alongside the full programme and all the necessary information. Printed versions of the map will also be available at information points at the entrances of paid venues, on illuminated totems next to individual artworks.

HOW TO NAVIGATE THE FESTIVAL?

You are free to view the artworks individually in any order and at your own pace. We recommend exploring the festival on foot, as this allows you to fully enjoy both the festival route and the city’s atmosphere.

For safety reasons and due to the increased number of visitors, we do not recommend travelling between venues on scooters, bicycles or any other means of transport.

WHEN IS THE BEST TIME TO ARRIVE AT THE FESTIVAL?

To allow plenty of time to explore all the venues at your leisure, the best time to arrive is 7 pm. If you prefer a quieter atmosphere, please arrive at around 9 pm.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO GET THROUGH THE FESTIVAL?

The time required depends on how many locations you visit. It takes 2-3 hours to see the whole festival. Please bear in mind that there may be queues for some installations, so we kindly ask for your patience. To allow visitors to enjoy the installations fully, access is limited for some of them.

HOW DO PAID LOCATIONS WORK?

For paid venues, you will need to show your festival wristband when you enter. You can collect this from any information point at the entrance of the paid venues, in exchange for your ticket, whether it is an e-ticket or a ticket purchased on the day. Tickets are available online in advance or at the Zamečnická Information Centre.

WHAT’S THE BEST WAY TO GET TO THE FESTIVAL?

We recommend travelling by public transport. You can choose Hlavní nádraží, Česká or Moravské náměstí as your starting point.

By train: The main station is around a 10-minute walk from the festival centre.

By bus: City and regional services stop at Zvonařka bus station. From there, you can take tram number 12 to the festival centre at the Hlavní Nádraží stop. 12 to the festival centre, stopping at Hlavní Nádraží.

The RegioJet and FlixBus coaches stop at the coach station by the Grand Hotel. This is about a five-minute walk from the festival centre.

CAN I COME BY CAR?

Yes, but parking in the city can be difficult during the festival. We recommend using multi-storey car parks or park-and-ride facilities instead.

IS THE FESTIVAL FREE?

Most outdoor installations in public spaces can be visited for free. However, some selected locations charge an admission fee. You can find information on the admission fee for each location here. Tickets, known as Prototyp Pass, can be purchased here.

WHAT DOES THE TICKET COVER?

Your ticket gives you access to the paid sections of the festival and the supporting programme. You must exchange your ticket for a festival wristband at the information point at the entrance of the paid venues – see the map here for its location. If you have bought a ticket for a specific performance at St James’s church – The Path of Light, you can purchase a full-festival ticket at the Zámečnická Information Centre with a 50 % discount.

DO I HAVE TO BUY A TICKET IN ADVANCE?

We recommend buying your ticket online in advance. This will save you from having to queue on the day. Tickets will also be available to purchase from the Zámečnická Information Centre, but please note that they may sell out if the paid areas reach full capacity.

DO YOU HAVE DISCOUNTED TICKETS?

Children under five years of age are admitted free of charge to the paid trail. Discounted tickets are available for students, senior citizens, children aged 6–15, and disabled visitors, as detailed in the price list on the website.

WILL THE TICKETS BE REFUNDED?

No, we do not issue refunds for tickets. If we cancel an event, we will act in accordance with the Terms and Conditions.

ARE THE TICKETS TRANSFERABLE?

You can transfer your tickets until you exchange them for your festival wristband.

HOW SHOULD YOU BEHAVE AT A FESTIVAL?

Please follow the instructions of the organisers, volunteers and security staff. Be considerate and do not block building entrances or escape routes. Keep an eye on your children and stay with them. Be careful when crossing the road.

CAN I TOUCH THE INSTALLATIONS?

This is only permitted in the case of interactive installations. You will be held liable for any damage you cause.

Is it permitted to take photographs and record videos at the festival?

Yes, photography and filming for personal use are permitted. However, please avoid using a flash that could disturb other visitors or the artwork.

Our photographers and cameramen will be on site throughout the festival. Their work will be used for promotional purposes, archiving and festival communications.

ARE DRONES ALLOWED?

No, it is not permitted to use drones without prior authorisation from the organiser.

WILL THE FESTIVAL TEAM BE THERE?

Yes, there will be team members, volunteers or installation staff present at selected locations. You’ll find volunteers at each installation who can assist you, answer your questions and help in an emergency. You may also come across them along the festival route.

WILL THE INSTALLATION INCLUDE FLASHING LIGHTS, LOUD NOISES, FOG OR LASERS?

Some works may contain flashing lights or rapid, intense patterns of light. They may also incorporate specific sounds. We advise more sensitive visitors to check the warnings provided for each individual work.

IS THE FESTIVAL ACCESSIBLE?

We strive to ensure accessibility for all. As the festival takes place at various venues across the city, each with different entrances and conditions, the level of accessibility may vary. We therefore recommend that you check the accessibility information for a specific venue before visiting, and plan your route according to your individual needs.

IS THE FESTIVAL SUITABLE FOR CHILDREN?

Yes, much of the programme is suitable for families with children, particularly the Saturday programme, which is full of workshops. However, please bear in mind that the evening programme will involve larger crowds, flashing lights and louder sounds. Always keep your children close to you, and be careful when crossing the road, near trams and on stairs.

Can I bring a pushchair?

While most venues are adapted for this, some may have limited capacity or steps. The accessibility of each specific venue will always be indicated.

WILL THERE BE REFRESHMENTS AT THE FESTIVAL?

There will be partner establishments, including bars, cafés and food outlets, along the route. These will be marked on the map. Please note that it will not be possible to take food and drink into some venues.

Based on our experience, we recommend buying tickets online in advance, as they can sell out. You can purchase them here. This way, you’ll avoid having to queue. WHEN DO THE WORKSHOPS TAKE PLACE?

The workshops will take place on Saturday, 3 October 2026, running from 9 am to 22 pm. You can find the exact timetable for each workshop in the programme. You can access the full workshop programme here.

WHERE ARE THE WORKSHOPS HELD?

Most of the workshops will take place at KUMST Brno. The exact location and meeting point for each workshop is listed separately.

DO I NEED TO REGISTER?

Yes, you need to register for each workshop in advance so that we can keep track of numbers and provide you with the best possible experience. Some workshops may have limited capacity. Registration details will be provided for each workshop.

ARE THE WORKSHOPS FREE?

Yes, all the workshops are free of charge.

ARE THE WORKSHOPS SUITABLE FOR CHILDREN?

Yes, all the workshops are suitable for children, too. The recommended age range for each workshop will be stated.

WHAT IF THE WORKSHOP IS HELD OUTDOORS AND IT RAINS?

The street workshop will go ahead even in light rain. However, in the event of very bad weather, the programme may be subject to change. Please check our website and social media for the latest information.
