Playing a urinal, digital sculptures or a glass installation on the edge of physical laws? Only on the Prototype in Brno.

Mars Industries and Audire Fluctus launched futuristic fashion performances on Friday, October 18. Both parts showed work with non-traditional materials and at the same time captivated by visual processing of the accompanying light and sound show. Since the very beginning of the festival, the fashion performance has been its focal point together with an artistic exhibition and music program - the solo pancake trio and the well-known Czech multimedia artist DJ Floex have accompanied the program for the rest of the evening.

The artistic part of the Prototype festival was again curated by young artists and students. Among them was Adam Hejduk, a sculpture student at the Faculty of Fine Arts, Brno University of Technology, who won the Stanislav Libenský International Award for Young Glass Artists. He introduced the installation of Balance on the Prototype, using glass, wood and strings to create a spatial installation that can also serve as a musical instrument. Students from the Faculty of Informatics of Masaryk University then created several installations that did not leave visitors calm & #8211; playing a urinal accompanying each visit to the toilet, a photo booth from which each had a different experience, or a “lump of aluminum foil” that attacked visitors at the entrance with their (and perhaps their unspoken) thoughts.

"In many installations, besides the artistic level, it is also important that they actually disrupt our perceptions and experiences of the world very pleasantly and peacefully, and perhaps, I hope, force us to think about its unnecessary seriousness and seriousness. Others are impressive in that they outline where our everyday life can go with the help of technology. In short, we try to provide the general public with not quite an everyday experience. For example, when do you have to ask an artist to pee if you want him to show how his installation works?”The curator of the festival Neli Hejkalová shared the experience of a guided tour. In total, more than 30 artists participated in the artistic part of the festival.

At present, the increasingly inflected virtual reality has been represented on the Prototype by the installation of DUST by Andrej Boleslavský and Mária Júdová, who showed dance in terms of dust particles. Among the professional Brno artists, Tomáš Medek and his 5 giant sculptures of fruits and vegetables created using 3D printing are worth mentioning. The (Poly) interactive sound installation based on the principle of soil sonication was introduced by Jiří Suchánek and on the other side of the artistic and academic spectrum was Daniel Sýkora from CTU with his revolutionary algorithm StyLit, which generates real-time paintings based on handmade templates.

The weekend part of the Prototype festival belonged to the block of lectures Center of Interest: IT 2019, but also to independent lectures from various fields, from biometrics to media art curating. A significant part of the weekend program was provided by the Brno Mini Maker Faire DIY festival, which welcomed families with children and creative individuals interested in creating. The FabLab Experience mobile workshop was also on display. For both events the common ticket was valid for the whole weekend. During 3 days the festival was attended by 7 000 visitors. This year, the Prototype Festival was jointly organized by Prototyp production zs and the South Moravian Innovation Center. The festival was part of the project “The South Moravian Region Supports Science” and was held under the auspices of the Mayor of Brno JUDr. Markéta Vaňková and Rector of BUT prof. RNDr. Ing. Petr Stepanek, CSc., Dr. hc
