Why should we play against each other,
when we can play together?
–
Why should we choose a side,
when there are no sides?
–
Why should we look at something,
when we can be a part of it?

What is art?
Ping Pung is a circular table tennis table illuminated by UV light from the ceiling. The lines, net, balls and rackets are painted with UV paint. The aim of the installation is to ask whether art is just an object to look at, or whether art is a connection that is made between people and the object itself is just a medium to make these connections. It reflects the current problems of society, where people put themselves in opposition rather than working together to create a better world.
Šimon Kern is a Slovak artist and designer who uses non-traditional interactive and participatory strategies in his work. Through them he tries to erase the barrier between the art object and its observer, causing the viewer to become a part of the artwork.
